I think they like to pretend they never made a Fender knock-off, when some of their finest guitars were Fender knockoffs.Īnyway.inspect the neck plate and the tuners for clues.
#FERNANDES GUITARS JAPAN SERIES#
I read that these 2002-2003 series were supposedly made by Tokai.but I don't know if Tokai is a factory or just a brand.īasically it is hard to learn about Fernandes because they don't want us to know. (I'm thinking about selling it but in Oz you might be better off shopping locally.) Stock electronics are limited but the wood is great. I have one (blackguard trans ash) and it is great. These are sometimes known as "Limited Edition" series.

They also had a run of MIJ that showed up in USA around 2002 with a serial # on the front of the headstock. I have had 80s and early 90s MIJ Fernandes. The only other county marking is a paper sticker on the back of the headstock, which is usually gone on most used guitars. I had a Taiwan thinline that was very fine (vintage tuners).įernandes MIJ will say "Made in Japan" on the neck plate. The Gotoh style sealed tuners are usually a sign of cheaper Taiwanese or Korean models. The Grecos, Tokais and Fender Japans have been discovered and every player and his cousin wants em now, and they are around only they`re gonna cost ya.I`d get an Edwards and be extrtemely satisifed, in fact I`m just waiting to see one used locally so I can grab it.I have their strats, Les Paul types, a junior and had a 335 type.all great guitars for around $400.oo.įrom what I can determine, the higher quality MIJ Fernandes guitars from the 90s and onward have Kluson style vintage tuners.
#FERNANDES GUITARS JAPAN FULL#
I own some of the Edwards/Duncan models, though no teles, but I can tell you the quality is outstanding for the money they go for.I wouldn`t pay full retail for a new one mind but used they can be a bargain. Be careful buying on line too, sales pitches often try to make it sound like everything coming out of Japan at that time was wasn`t.even the Fernandes The Revivals came in a few models with the low ends priced that way for a reason. If I were looking for a very well made tele with US p`ups, I`d be watching the Ishibashi U-Box for a used Edwards from the Duncan series, and there was one there yesterday.yes there were some real nice guitars MIJ in the `80s but with so many people overseas looking for them, prices have gone mad and they go fast, the Edwards are fine guitars and the best deal I can get on the used market in Japan these days. It has to be an `80s your looking for? You`ve read somewhere those are the best?.in my opinion there are many outstanding guitars made here in Japan these days. Just got the 2009 Fernandes catalog recently, they are still building guitars in Japan but only the top end models now.and there are no teles listed this year.
